“(…) Javier Fresneda jumped into the arena a few months ago with that work of overwhelming simplicity called Drum, a video, several photographs and some digital drawing which measured the action of a rock drummer playing his instrument while submerged in a lake.
(…) Fresneda develops a good part of the essential concerns that characterizes this work: the combination of scientific objectivism (physics, geography…) with the plastic manipulation of the form and the invitation to go through the door of the sensory. The dialogue between information (figurative, narrative) and abstraction (conceptual, formal), as well as some epic interest for the useless, capricious and dangerous causes of the human being and his intimate connection with the artist as Sisyphus (…) In the background, dialogues between the lonely human and a nature that seems partly conceived as a general organism, alive and intelligent, a kind of Solaris ocean: no necessarily cruel, but just powerful.”
